Can I work a job while attending the School?

Yes! The School of Ministry is designed to be accessible for working men. Paul, Peter, James, John, and even Jesus were working men. God uses working men for His glory, and uses those jobs for the starting place of missions. Church planters most often are bi-vocational, so the School of Ministry is designed for your transition from training to the planting of a church, all the while working a job that puts you in the midst of the very people you are seeking to see saved (Luke 19:10).

How is work assessed at the School of Ministry?

While SOM doesn't offer grades, the work will be evaluated by the following criteria:

Staff Assessment: Following each semester, the staff of Morningstar School of Ministry will assess each student and offer prayerful feedback in the areas of Calling, Conviction, Character, Care, Compassion, and Competence. At the end of your time in the program, the staff will give you a final assessment with some practical coaching on where the Lord might lead you next.

Completion of SOM: SOM students who complete 90 percent of their classes will have shown that even if they are not yet competent to minister, the heart of a called man does in fact lie within them.

Homework Completion: Staff will assign both textbooks and homework throughout the semesters, which are expected to be completed.

Will the School of Ministry be difficult to complete?

In a word, yes. However, if you are called to ministry, it will be worth it. In the first three years of any ministry you step into, there will be plenty of hardships and trials. Paul says, “Through many tribulations, we must enter the Kingdom of God" (Acts 14:22).  It’s our prayer that we can sufficiently prepare you for certain, impending, and victorious warfare (1 Tim. 1:18-20). If your heart is willing, this calling will see you through despite any drawbacks you might otherwise have. Our staff is committed to doing the hard work of training the called as we know this: God’s power is indeed made perfect in our weakness (2 Cor. 12:9).
