1 Peter 2:15-16

For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men—as free, yet not using liberty as a cloak for vice, but as bondservants of God.
1 Peter 2:15-16

I always take notice when a passage begins with "For this is the will of God." For those of us who yearn to know His will for our lives, it's like discovering a precious gem of wisdom. I can't wait to apply it to my life, but it often proves to be at odds with my will.

I would much rather put to silence the ignorance of foolish people by doing them harm, by putting them in their place. But the Lord reminds me that, though I'm free to choose the method, my solution is an excuse for more foolishness, and His solution will bring benefit to all in the name of Jesus.

What a sweet sacrifice it is to answer slander with blessing, to do good rather than seek revenge. Let's honor His will today, instead of our own. The foolish will still be made silent, and we can be assured that we are in tune with God's plan for our lives.
