Daniel 1:8

But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank.
Daniel 1:8

Over his lifetime, Daniel managed affairs for Gentile kings, interpreted dreams, and had the clearest visions of the end times before Revelation. However, it's important to remember it all started with the verse above. Daniel was following the diet laid out in the Law and therefore couldn't partake of the food being offered to him by the Babylonians.

You might say, what’s the big deal, it's only food, and that's certainly an argument that could be made, but Daniel decided He was going to follow the Lord's word faithfully and not make judgments on whether it mattered or not. He purposed it in his heart that He would follow God. He did it when it came to food and he did it when it came to bigger things later in his life.

Have you vowed to follow God's word no matter the circumstances?
