Romans 15:5

Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus.
Romans 15:5

Years ago, when my son played in an honor orchestra, I noticed that before any music was played, the first violinist struck a particular note. Then all of the individuals tuned their instrument to that one note. Regardless of whether the instrument was brass, woodwind, or percussion, as diverse as the many instruments were, they all tuned to this one note. Once tuned, the director then entered the stage and lifted his baton. Then all the individuals following the director played the music before them.

As I thought about that, I realized this is how the Body of Christ is designed to work. God is the director and the music is the Word of God. The individuals in the Body are diverse in culture, languange, personality and background. Yet, as they follow the Word of God under the direction of the Holy Spirit, there is complete unity. Paul, writing to the Ephesians, stressed this point.

"I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all." -- Ephesians 4:1-6
