Judges 6:13

Gideon said to Him, "O my lord, if the LORD is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all His miracles which our fathers told us about, saying, 'Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt?' But now the LORD has forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites."
Judges 6:13

At a time when Israel was far from God and the Lord was chastening her, a young man named Gideon wondered in his heart where God had gone. He thought that if God was with them things would be better. If the God he had heard about from his forefathers were available, life would greatly improve. He concluded that God must have given them up and left them to be overwhelmed by their enemies.

As Christians, we pray daily for our government, our city, our nation, and those we love. Sometimes the answers to our prayers seem slow in coming. It may even feel like we are losing ground while the enemy takes laps declaring victory. May I encourage you to continue to pray and not draw the wrong conclusion as Gideon. As God was doing in his day, calling a nation back to Himself and preparing a deliverer, so God is at work today powerfully and purposefully. Behind the scenes, out of sight, but never out of touch with our needs or our cries. Paul told the Thessalonians (1 Thessalonians 5:17) to pray without ceasing. That is good counsel for us, for the Lord has a glorious plan and His work is not complete. I can't wait to have Him reveal what He has been doing. Check out Galatians 6:9.

Praying with great anticipation for His work to be revealed,

Pastor Jack Abeelen
