Job 1:8-10

Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?" So Satan answered the LORD and said, "Does Job fear God for nothing? Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land."
Job 1:8-10

God found no fault with Job but Satan did. Satan's accusation against Job was really an attack on God. As if to say, "The only reason Job fears You is because You pay him to do it. You protect him and prosper him as long as he obeys and worships You. You are not a God worthy of worship! You have to pay people to honor You." This is why Jesus called him the father of all lies.

Our relationship with God is not based on bargaining. We don't serve Him to get; we serve Him to give. This is why the Lord gave us free will so that we would freely come to love and worship Him. And He doesn't bless us because we deserve it; He blesses us because He loves us. He is sovereign and Satan can't touch us without His permission, which is only given for our ultimate good and His Glory.

Trusting in His sovereign will,

Pastor Gerard Deleeuw
