1 Chronicles 29:9

Then the people rejoiced, for they had offered willingly, because with a loyal heart they had offered willingly to the LORD; and King David also rejoiced greatly.
1 Chronicles 29:9

In the latter years of David's life, he set a personal goal of collecting materials for his son, Solomon, to build the Temple in Jerusalem after his death. When he had reached his goal, he gathered the people together for an enormous thanksgiving celebration. In addition, he gave the people the opportunity to contribute to the great work of building the house of God. Notice what happened to the hearts of the people when their giving was driven by a heart of worship. There was no griping or complaining, only rejoicing! This must have been quite a sight. David, in seeing what had happened, saw things in perspective. In his prayer of dedication, he said,

"Now, therefore, our God, We thank You And praise Your glorious name. But who am I, and who are my people, That we should be able to offer so willingly as this? For all things come from You, And of Your own, we have given You." (1 Chronicles 29:13, 14).

Along with that same line, Paul would ask the Corinthians, " And what do you have that you did not receive? Now if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?" (1 Corinthians 4:7).

As you partake of the many blessings on this day, remember where they came from.
