Proverbs 27:23

Be diligent to know the state of your flocks, And attend to your herds.
Proverbs 27:23

We all have a responsibility to things that have been given to us -- whether it is a position at work, a spouse, children, an influential role in another person's life, or something as simple as our possessions. While this proverb speaks of farming and caring for your flocks, the principle is the same for all of our responsibilities. If we don't tend to and diligently care for the things we have charge over, there is no guarantee everything will just turn out alright for us.

For example, if you don't care for the spiritual well-being of your children, there is no reason to believe that they are going to have good solid walks with the Lord once they are adults. Being absent in their lives spiritually because your focus was making sure they got their schoolwork done, and pressed them to give their best in whatever sport they were playing while skipping out on spiritual issues, means you haven't attended to your herd diligently. While we rely on the grace of God for our strength, help, and wisdom, we still must be diligent on our end to do what the Lord has called us to do in all the different responsibilities of our lives. Grace isn't an excuse for laziness or bad prioritization, especially when it involves those under your care.

Seeking to be diligent,
