Genesis 22:7

But Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, "My father!" And he said, "Here I am, my son." Then he said, "Look, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?"
Genesis 22:7

Abraham and Isaac were on their way up Mount Moriah to give an offering to God. Abraham knew that God had called him to sacrifice his only son, but Isaac could only see that something was missing. In his question, he gives us an important lesson as to how we should worship God. Isaac understood that in order for God to be honored there had to be a sacrifice. Just wood and fire isn’t enough. Something has to die.

Do we approach our Lord in worship with just wood and fire, just music, song, and lip service? Or are we dying to self and offering to God our very lives as a living sacrifice? Jesus did.

In sweet surrender,

Pastor Gerard Deleeuw
