Matthew 5:8

Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.
Matthew 5:8

This promise of Christ in His sermon on the mount has both a short-term and a long-term meaning. The long-term promise is that as believers, we will one day see God face to face in Heaven. This is certainly a day I very much look forward to. But there is also a short-term meaning to this that applies to us now, while we are still walking this earth.

A common complaint amongst Christians is that they don't "feel" or "see" God in their lives. To that I would say: set your heart to be wholeheartedly unto Him. Purge out the selfish distractions and sins from your life and commit yourself completely to the purposes of God. If you want to see God working in your life, if you want to see His Glory on full display, then obey the condition of the promise and live your life with a pure heart.

The first step to living with a pure heart is to pray for one. "Create in me a clean heart, O God and renew a steadfast spirit within me" (Ps 51:10). Then keep your eyes up and your heart willing, and you will be blessed.
