Job 2:9-10

Then his wife said to him, "Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse God and die!" But he said to her, "You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?" In all this Job did not sin with his lips.
Job 2:9-10

Job had already been overwhelmed with grief through the loss of his children and possessions. Now his health had been taken from him and his wife had had enough. She told her husband to just get it over with, give in to their plight, and throw some well-deserved curses heavenward.

But in the verses above we see the key to Job's integrity. If God is sovereign and we believe that He always has our best in mind, can He not do what He wants and at times bring adversity into our lives? It is evident that Job had this mindset before the disaster struck so that when it did, his trust in God was his natural next step and he "did not sin with his lips." Now is the time to put our trust in Him -- when things are "good" so that we can accept adversity when it comes and keep trusting.

The wonder of His sovereign will,

Pastor Gerard Deleeuw
