1 Corinthians 8:9

But beware lest somehow this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to those who are weak.
1 Corinthians 8:9

As Christians, we are warned that our actions can affect others. While it's true we have liberty – to watch certain TV shows or to drink, though not to excess – we need to beware of how those actions influence others.

Liberty isn't helpful if it stumbles others. I'm always cautious about the things that I post on social media for that reason. The example Paul used in 1 Corinthians 8 was food offered to idols. He said that the strong Christian has the right to eat the food offered, but not if it hinders the weaker Christian who might be offended by that action. We have to ask ourselves, are we stumbling our brother through our liberty?

Being a Christian means that we support each other through our journeys in life. Because we care about our weaker brother, we don't rub our liberty in his face. We change our lifestyle to better lift up our fellow Christians. It's more important that we don't affect the Christian walk of someone else than demanding to do what we want when we want, no matter the circumstances.

Love your brothers and sisters in Christ,

Pastor Ron Kitchell
