Galatians 2:20

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
Galatians 2:20

The book of Galatians finds Paul having a few choice words with Peter. Peter was living with the Gentiles, but when those from James came, being Jews, he left the Gentiles to be with them and showed his hypocrisy. Paul pointed out that it's not by the law that we are saved, but by grace, and when I realize that I cannot keep the law, I can stop trying so that I can live for God. Paul said that the old self has been crucified with Christ. It's not I who live, but Christ who lives in me so that I now live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself for me. Paul recognized that keeping the law only revealed that he was a sinner and he could not be saved by the works of the law.

The law is not what saves us. We can try and try, but we will never be justified by the law as it will only reveal that we are sinners in need of a Savior. If we go down that route, we must keep the entire law. The great news of the Gospel is that we can crucify our old self with Christ. We no longer have to try to please God by our works, but can live a life of faith in Christ, who gave Himself for me because He loved me. So when you feel like you have not measured up and need to do more, remember that it is no longer you who lives, but Christ who lives in you. The life you now live, live it by faith in the Son of God.
