John 17:4

I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world.
John 17:4

These words are from Jesus' great prayer recorded by John in his gospel. In His prayer, Jesus makes many statements summarizing His calling and purpose, and this one is particularly enlightening. It reveals that the scope of His mission was, in some ways, limited to specific individuals into whose lives He poured His time and teaching. Though ultimately His mission is broad enough to include people in the uttermost parts of the earth, it was also narrowed down to just a handful of chosen men, into whose hands He gave the global mission. "I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word" (John 17:20).

In the same way that Jesus had a broad and narrow ministry scope, so it is with us. We have been given a worldwide mission to take the precious message of the gospel to every tongue and tribe and nation, but there is only a limited number of people over whom we have influence. These are the people God has given each of us out of the world. To them, it is our calling to manifest Jesus' name.

To "manifest" simply means to "reveal."  It is our mission to just reveal Jesus in all His glory to the people that He has given us. The specifics of just how to do this are not, per se, revealed in Scripture. But the Bible does reveal the method by which we can come to know His will on how to do it: by prayer and supplication and through the power of the Spirit. Let us be faithful to pray for and love those He has given us, and reveal Jesus to them.
