1 John 1:9

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9

My youngest son, Joshua, loves his white dry erase board. He'll create all sorts of drawings, then, using his hand, he'll wipe off the board and start all over again. After a while, the board is a mess. Try as he may, he can never get all the marks off. This is when he comes to me, his father, and asks, "Can you make it shiny clean?" With just a little elbow grease and a paper towel, the whiteboard looks like new. It is as if nothing has ever been drawn on it, or as my son would say, shiny clean. And his joy is restored.

This is what God does for us when we come to Him confessing our sin. Try as we may to cover our sin, but we can never be "shiny clean" unless we first go to our Father and ask Him for help. Only then can our joy be restored.

King David understood this principle. In Psalm 51, after confessing his sins, David writes "Create in me a clean heart, O God" (Psalm 51:10) and "Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me by Your generous Spirit" (Psalm 51:12).

Let's ask our Father to make us shiny clean today.
