1 Corinthians 13:13

And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
1 Corinthians 13:13

It's hard not to be amazed by 1 Corinthians 13. It has one subject, love. It points out that love should be our ultimate goal, no matter what spiritual gifts we may have (13:1-3). It points out that love is actions, not feelings (13:4-7). We often get confused about this because we watch too many Hallmark movies where the words, "I love you," are a magic elixir which takes care of all of life's problems. Yet those verses tell us what love does and doesn't do, not how it should feel.

We find out that love never fails. All things will eventually pass away, but not love. In the verse above, Paul, who wrote this chapter, says that faith will abide, and hope will abide, and love will abide. They will dwell with us. But love is the greatest of these.

Our actions should always be based on love. Not the kind of love that we see in the movies, which are based on feelings, but on the love described here. It's the kind of love God has for us.

Loved by my Savior,

Pastor Ron Kitchell
