Jeremiah 1:9

Then the Lord put forth His hand and touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me: "Behold, I have put My words in your mouth."
Jeremiah 1:9

When God called upon Jeremiah to serve as a prophet and to speak to His people about the calamities to come and the grace of God that was freely offered to those who would turn to Him, Jeremiah resisted.

In his own estimation, Jeremiah believed that he was inadequate to the task set before him. Citing his age and poor speaking ability, Jeremiah reckoned that the Lord must have the wrong guy in mind. The Lord reminded Jeremiah that He would be with him and would deliver him. And, as this verse attests, God did more than encourage Jeremiah; He empowered him to fulfill the calling to the utmost.

When God calls us to serve Him, let's remember that our response doesn't have to be, "No, I'm just a (insert reason for disqualification here)," but rather, "Yes, Lord, I trust You to equip me to respond to Your call and to enable me to serve You well."

How wonderful it is that our sufficiency does not depend upon we who answer, but on the One who calls!
