Luke 14:28

For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it.
Luke 14:28

Jesus reminds us that following Him comes at a price that should be carefully considered. That price is the willingness to surrender all that we are to Him. What’s the return on our investment? Forgiveness, grace, peace, love, eternal life, an ever-renewed heart, a right relationship with our Heavenly Father, and the guidance and comfort of the Holy Spirit.

It costs each of us something to follow Jesus, but there is a greater cost of not following Him. A life lived without the Lord has its own particular rewards: regret, selfishness, loneliness, and judgment, to name a few.

Some come to Christ on an impulse without first considering the expense. If someone isn't willing to give Him their life, the commitment that’s necessary to stay the course has no footing. It's easier to not pray than pray. It's easier to leave your Bible on the shelf than to read it. It's easier to hate than to love. It's easier to walk away than to follow Jesus every day.

Giving Jesus your life is the most important choice you will ever make. Easy? No, but how grateful I am that for the life given to Him, He comes alongside to provide all that is necessary to complete the work, and to finish it well.
