Romans 5:8

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8

Love. What is it good for?

Sometimes we have a tendency to view Biblical love as kind of cold and calculated. You'll hear a lot of teachers say that love is a choice and not an emotion and that's certainly true. However, when we just apply that to a scenario where we are demanded to love when we don't want to or feel like it, the idea of love in our understanding sometimes gets a negative connotation attached to it.

But I think when reading this verse above, it flips that negative connotation on its head. God demonstrated, proved, displayed HIS love to us, while we were still defying Him, disrespecting Him, dishonoring Him, discrediting Him, yet… He still chose to love us, by sending Jesus to die in our place. I don't think God would go to such lengths to display His love if this choice of His was some cold, calculated thought that He felt obligated to. No, He genuinely, passionately loves us, therefore, while we were still sinners, He died for us.

So… what is love good for? Absolutely EVERYTHING!
