1 Kings 19:9

And there he went into a cave, and spent the night in that place; and behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and He said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?"
1 Kings 19:9

Before the above verse, Elijah had just finished proving that the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel is the only living God by defeating the prophets of Baal. Yet when he heard that Jezebel wanted to take his life, he ran for the hills to hide. The Lord asked him "What are you doing here, Elijah?" and Elijah said, "I'm the only one left." The Lord, later in the chapter, asked him again (verse 13) "What are you doing here, Elijah?" and Elijah again responded in the same way. What Elijah didn't know was that there were still seven thousand who did not bend their knee to Baal.

What the Lord was driving home to Elijah was this, "Why aren't you out there doing what you are supposed to be doing?" Now if the Lord were to come to you today and ask you "What are you doing here?", what will you say? The good news for us is that Jesus tells us what to do! He says, "Go and make disciples of all nations, teaching them all that I have commanded you" (Matthew 28:19-20). We aren't called to be secret Christians, but to go out into the world and share the good news of Jesus Christ.

"What are you doing here, Joshua?"
