2 Chronicles 12:1

Now it came to pass, when Rehoboam had established the kingdom and had strengthened himself, that he forsook the law of the Lord, and all Israel along with him.
2 Chronicles 12:1

I've always found it interesting that once you finally make it to a comfortable place in life where things are going well, you tend to toot your own horn, and your dependency and passion for God seems to lessen bit by bit. Obviously, our pride has a way of getting the best of us when things are good, as was the case for Rehoboam. Once he had everything where he wanted it, his dependency on God turned into confidence in himself.

We learn from God's Word that pride comes before the fall. The passage that follows 2 Chronicles 12:1 is a short account of the consequence of letting pride get the best of you. I would encourage you to read 2 Chronicles 12:2-12 and let it serve as a reminder that all good gifts come from above.

"Before destruction, the heart of a man is haughty, And before honor is humility"(Proverbs 18:12).
