Matthew 5:13

You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.
Matthew 5:13

In Jesus' day, salt was a precious resource. It not only preserved meat, it also added flavor. Pure salt was difficult to find. Salt that was not pure, diluted with impurities, could not preserve meat and had no real flavor. Impure salt was not precious and would be thrown out on the walkway. When the rain fell, the salt would dissolve into the ground and kill all of the vegetation, making a walkway, and would literally be trampled underfoot.

Christians are like salt, they are precious. Like salt, Christians should have a preserving influence on their culture. Like salt, a Christian should add flavor, drawing others to Christ by their love. But if we allow impurity to set into our lives, we will lose our saltiness. Jesus warns us that if we live worldly lives, we will lose our power to witness.

If the church is not walking worthy of our King, the world will walk all over the church.

Walk worthy,

Pastor Rod Harris
