Ephesians 4:26-27

"Be angry, and do not sin": do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil.
Ephesians 4:26-27

When I was younger and playing sports, nothing was more important to me than winning. I used to lose my temper with referees and teammates and whoever else stood in the way of me winning. Occasionally on the slo-pitch softball field, that old man still rears its ugly head.

That is not the right kind of anger to have. That is the kind of anger spoken of at the end of this verse, the kind of wrath that gives place to the devil. He will use that anger to draw us away from God and get our mind filled with worldly thoughts.

There is righteous anger, however. Jesus had it when He turned over the tables of moneychangers and told them they were making the House of God a place of merchandise instead of a house of prayer. When God's work is being hindered, especially by those who would profess to know Him, it should make us angry.

If you have a bad temper and everything causes you to blow a gasket, remember this verse. You can't blame your upbringing, your heritage, or your circumstance, because Jesus promises to give you peace.

Keeping calm in Jesus,

Pastor Ron Kitchell
