Revelation 1:17-18

And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, "Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last. I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death."
Revelation 1:17-18

We don't often picture Jesus as He's depicted in chapter one of Revelation. We often picture Jesus with a soft warm glow and cuddly sheep next to Him, or we picture Jesus in great anguish suffering for the sins of the world.

But when Jesus shows up in John's vision here in Revelation, the author sees King Jesus, and given John's reaction, I would probably argue there wasn't a soft glow or cuddly sheep with Him. We need to remember that Jesus isn't just a servant, He isn't just a sufferer, He is King of kings and Lord of lords. Jesus is the First and the Last. He is the One who died and rose again by His own power. He is the One who lives forevermore and holds the keys to all things, including Hades and death.

We belong to, and worship, the God who sits on the throne of the universe and I love the fact that we don't have to be afraid of Him. What a glorious and powerful King who deserves all our worship and praise!
