Exodus 3:10-11

"Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.” But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?”
Exodus 3:10-11

If you’re anything like me, then you often feel inadequate to do anything of real significance. Certainly there are times when you get motivated or pumped up to do something awesome, but that quickly gets deflated for whatever reason. I think Moses from the passage above pretty much speaks to that feeling. When Moses was younger, he was probably a bit more ambitious; life hadn’t knocked him down yet. And when he wanted to be brave for his people the Israelites, he ended up killing an Egyptian in order to accomplish that, but that didn’t turn out so well for him.

By the time Moses hits age 80, he pretty much feels like a loser. His good years behind him, wasted in the desert doing nothing of significance. But here at age 80, God calls him to step up to the plate. He gives him the job of rescuing His people, a dream I think Moses stopped dreaming long ago. Was he better prepared by this age? Probably not in the sense of any spiritual feats, all he had going for him was that he was broken.

God uses broken people to do significant things. Broken people who aren’t out for themselves, but willing to let God use them, even when they don’t think they’re good enough or qualified to do it. God can work with that. So if you’re broken like Moses, and me, God can use you too!
