Colossians 3:1-2

If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
Colossians 3:1-2

The Lord through Paul's writing is giving us two commands in these verses. Having been raised with Christ we are to "seek" and "set." First "seek,"or put our focus on the reality of Christ in the heavenlies, above our circumstances and above our perspective. How does the world tell us to seek? The psychologist tells us to, "Look within." The opportunist says, "Look around." The optimist says, "Look ahead." The pessimist says, "Look out!" but God says, "Look up!"

Seeking is one thing, setting is another. "To set your mind" means a resolve made in advance to think a certain way and then filter everything else through that predetermined mindset. A prime example of this is Caleb and Joshua and how they not only believed the promise but they endured the 40 years in the wilderness because they kept their eyes on the prize – the Promised Land of Canaan. They knew they had an inheritance coming and they lived in light of that inheritance.

So set your mind today to seek Jesus and His righteousness and see if the rest won’t indeed be added to you (Matthew 6:33).

Looking up,

Pastor Gerard Deleeuw
