Matthew 6:1

"Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven."
Matthew 6:1

How we give or how we go about our good deeds most often reveals our true heart's desire. There are a lot of philanthropists in the world, most of them are usually very wealthy people and when they give, the whole world hears about it. Do they do it because they love God? Do they do it because they truly care about the cause? Or do they do it because it makes them feel good about themselves and they love the praise that comes with giving?

When we cut a check or spend time serving, are we looking for praise from others? Are we looking to feel good about ourselves? Or are we simply just wanting to love people and love God. When we give, we should do it as discreetly as possible for the Lord. It shouldn't be boasted about on social media, brought to the local news, or require a reward. Our flesh has a desire to seek self, but we are crucified with Christ, and it is now Christ who lives in us, and Christ didn't come to seek His own will, He came to fulfill the will of the Father. We aim only to please our heavenly Father who rewards us with eternal treasures.
