Psalm 119:37

Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things, And revive me in Your way.
Psalm 119:37

The psalmist in our verse asks God for help in walking with Him in this world. The request is simple and yet profound. The word worthless in Hebrew is shav and means empty, vain, or having no lasting value. He asks God to put a guard on his eyes so that he will not spend five seconds of his life looking at or longing for things in this world that have no lasting value. Instead he longs to be revived (made alive, quickened, restored or recovered) in the way.

Let my flesh be denied and my spirit be revived! What a good prayer for each of us. God, please turn me away from beholding the world and its allurements and instead keep my eyes upon You and restore my excitement for things of the Spirit. Amen!

God, please set a watch over my eyes,
