Exodus 20:7

"You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain."
Exodus 20:7

When we read the third commandment above, we often think in terms of using the Lord's name as a curse word and it certainly applies to that. However, it's also taking the Lord's name in vain to just casually throw it out without believing what you're saying. I've seen rock stars and actors accept awards for the most ungodly songs and movies you can imagine and still stand on stage thanking the Lord.

Jesus' name is the name above all names. It is mighty in power. Acts 4:12 says, Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. To just casually toss out the name of God and Jesus without recognizing the power of doing so is taking His name in vain.

When you use the name of Jesus, don't forget how much power His name has. No one can get saved without it.

Praising the King of Kings and Lord of Lords,

Pastor Ron Kitchell
