Matthew 3:4

And John himself was clothed in camel's hair, with a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.
Matthew 3:4

In Matthew 3, we are introduced to a man known as John the Baptist. He was a unique man in many ways. In verses 1-3, we are told that John came with a unique message and calling from the Lord. His message, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand," and his calling, "was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet saying, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the LORD; Make His paths straight.'"

But here in verse 4, we have mention of a couple of other things that made John unique. He wasn't your average looking preacher, dressed in a camel's hair coat and a big leather belt. And his diet wasn't what you would expect either -- grasshoppers and honey.

But we are told that hundreds came to listen and responded to his message. Why? Well, it wasn't because of how he looked or what he ate. It was because he spoke the message that the Lord gave to him to preach and he was faithful to the calling that God had given him to accomplish.

We may seem out of place in this world as well, as we seek to obey the word of God, living a life contrary to the ways of this world. But it's the message that God has given us to preach and the calling that we have that will draw men to the Lord.
