John 13:35

"By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."
John 13:35

I was reading a book where the author was at a Christian festival teaching. During one of the breaks, he met with a small group of people when one of them, a Christian, dismissed himself and asked for apologies as he felt that his addiction ruined his witness. A Buddhist woman in that small group replied and said, "We non-Christians, when one of our rank becomes a Christian, do not watch them to see how well they live up to some self-imposed standard of piety. We watch them to see how they start treating people."

Sometimes we put some self-imposed standards to show the world that we are following the Lord. To show the world that we are Christians. These can sometimes be helpful, but Jesus here gives us the key to let the world know we are following Him. It's by showing love for one another.

In 1 John 3:10-11, John says the children of God are known by practicing righteousness and how he loves his brother. This was taught from the very beginning. So, does our love for one another speak about who we belong to?
