Ephesians 6:6-7

Not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, with goodwill doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men.
Ephesians 6:6-7

Sure, it's easy to "look busy" when the boss is around. But what about those times when you are working alone, when no one sees what you are doing but the Lord? How many people walk in late and consistently blame someone else? How many workers have you seen minimize non-work related material from their desktops or constantly view non-productive content on their phones? Unfortunately, you see it more often than not in most work environments.

What does the Lord have to say about our behavior when it comes to our work habits? We are given instruction in today's scripture that we are to be submissive to our employers, working as though unto the Lord. We are to hold our employers with high regard, deep respect, and fear. I know sometimes it may be hard to get excited about doing our job, but if we remember that we are working as unto the Lord, that alone should give us the spark of energy and excitement that comes from a heart of gratitude rather than a tone of attitude.

We are all bondservants, serving one Master. When Jesus walks your surroundings today, my prayer is that He would see a good worker in you, approved before God; one who does not need to be ashamed of his actions (2 Timothy 2:15a). May we commit ourselves wholeheartedly to the task He has graciously given to us, being devoted and productive in all we do, longing for the day that we hear Him say, "Well done, good and faithful servant!"

In service to the Lord,

Tom Moore
